Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about housing at Samarkand International College.

Yes, all first-year international students are required to live in on-campus housing for their first academic year. This policy helps new students adjust to college life, build community, and access important support services. Exceptions may be granted for students who will be living with family members in the Samarkand area.

Roommates are assigned based on the preferences indicated in your housing application, including study habits, sleep schedules, and personal interests. We make every effort to match compatible roommates. You may also request a specific roommate if both parties mutually agree to the arrangement.

All dormitory rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, and wardrobes. You should bring bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets), towels, personal hygiene items, study supplies, and personal electronics. Detailed packing lists are provided with housing assignments. Large appliances, candles, and certain electrical devices are not permitted for safety reasons.

Safety is our top priority. All residence halls have 24/7 security, electronic key card access, security cameras in common areas, and regular security patrols. Resident Advisors (RAs) live on each floor and are trained to respond to emergencies. The campus security office is staffed around the clock and can be reached immediately in case of emergency.

Most residence halls remain open during short breaks (fall break, spring break). However, during winter break (December-January), most halls close and students must make alternative arrangements. International students who cannot return home during this period may apply for winter break housing, which is available in designated residence halls for an additional fee.
